Governance & Scheme of Delegation (Academies)

Across England, there are over 300,000 school/academy Governors, who form the largest volunteer force in the country.

Members of Chobham Academy’s Governing Body work collectively to perform a strategic role and carry out key functions such as:

  • Discuss and set the aims and objectives for the Academy.
  • Set the required policies for achieving those aims and objectives.
  • Set the required targets for achieving those aims and objectives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress that the Academy is making towards its set aims and objectives. A separate Finance and General Purposes committee meets termly, reporting to the Full Governing Body, its role is to ensure financial compliance and good value for money as well as keep an oversight of buildings and human resources.
  • Finally the role of role of the Academy Governor is to be a source of challenge and support to the Principal, i.e. a 'critical friend’.

We're fortunate to have an active Governing Body, who take a strategic role in ensuring the Academy provides the best possible provision for our learners.

Lord Harris of Peckham (Lead Sponsor for Harris Federation):

"I believe that a good education is the most important start in life we can give young people and our intention is that when all students leave, they will be well prepared to succeed in the world – in whatever walk of life they choose."

Parent Governors are the main point of contact for parents and can be reached at ClerkToGovernors@chobhamacademy.org.uk, with subject “FAO Parent Governors”.

To contact Alan Bates, the Chair of Governors, please email the Academy at ClerkToGovernors@chobhamacademy.org.uk, with subject “FAO Mr Alan Bates”.

Chobham Academy sits outside the Harris Federation in terms of ultimate ownership and control and has its own Academy Trust (known as Chobham Academy Trust) registered at Companies House. The Governing Body act as the Directors of the Academy Trust, and the Academy Trust also has members whose role is to meet annually to adopt the accounts and receive an annual report before filing reports to Companies House. They also have the role of appointing Directors/Governors to the Governing Body and agreeing and adopting the business plan and budget of the Academy.
